Eurovision2000 is an independent, thematic project initiated by artists in the framework of Café9. The central concept of EuroVision2000 is the direct exchange of reports, documentations, personal experiences and narrations around the issue of the current redefinition of Europe and its socio-economic transformation with the aim of a critical examination of current and historic forms of border construction, as well as exclusion processes, related to the formulation of national or general European identities.
EuroVision2000 in Prague takes place from 8.9. to15.9. in the Café9 venue in Roxy. The programm in Prague will focus on four topics such as urban transformations and cultural and personal experiences of the changes since 1989, IWF and the liberalisation and globalisation of the economy, the adaptation of EU standards and the invention of a new European identity by constructing new borders and exclusions, representation of social and political realities and the function of mass media.
During two days from 9. and 10.9. we plan an informal meeting where theoretical and socio-political perspectives will be shared by filmmakers, artists and theorists from Middle, Central and Eastern Europe. At the 8., 9. and 10.9. in the evening the EuroVision2000 video- and filmprogramm will be shown. Between the 11. and 14.9. two or three thematicaly events including presentations and discussions will take place in the evening. EuroVision2000 in Prague will be finished with a „EuroVision2000 Show" at 15.9.
We are looking for independent film and video productions based on personal, cultural, and documentary observations of the ongoing redefinition of Europe with all its social, political and economic consequences. All artists, film producers, activists, theorists and other groups or individuals who have already worked on these topics or who plan such productions, are invited to participate in the EuroVision2000 network.
We are looking for groups or individuals who would like to take on the local coordination of EuroVision2000 in Prague and who would like to participate in the conception and production of their own programmes, parts of programmes and live events during the week from 8.9 - 15.9.
